PED Survey Mailed To Homeschool Families

Dear CAPE Families,

Many first time NM homeschooling families have been receiving letters from the Secretary of Education the last couple of days.   The letter states that according to their records, your child (named in the letter) is not enrolled in school and asks you to fill out a survey.  CAPE has spoken with the PED, and they have explained that this letter was sent in error and comes from an independent contractor that works with the PED, not the PED themselves.  Right now, the letter seems to only be going to parents who have disenrolled from a public school.

If you have followed the homeschool law to notify the PED and received confirmation, you may disregard this letter. You are not required to respond in any way.  As of our conversation this morning, the PED plans to send apology letters to those families who received this letter in error.
